ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

Zero waste starts at school

The young leaders behind Project RootED are helping Bulata National High School be a zero-waste and climate-resilient school through youth leadership, environmental education, and community collaboration.

The initiative brings together students, teachers, school vendors, and local partners to strengthen waste management systems and build long-term environmental accountability within the school community.

Over the past few months, the team has focused on laying the groundwork for implementation: strengthening partnerships, developing training tools, and preparing for upcoming capacity-building activities.

The waste problem has bothered me for a long time, but as a young person, it is easy to feel like there is only so much you can do. Green Spark Fund gave us the chance to turn that frustration into something we could actually try, and to show that change is possible when people are willing to start somewhere. More than funding, the mentorship challenged me to think beyond what we wanted to do and toward what the community could eventually own. This experience taught me how to work with people, grow into a better advocate, and build something that can continue beyond my own involvement.
